Institute of Administrative Management:

The Institute of Administrative Management is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity. It was set up in 1915 by a progressive group of senior executives of large companies and public service organisations with the Principal Object of promoting, and developing for the public benefit, the Science of Administrative Management in all its branches.

The IAM has an EIGHTY-SIX YEAR RECORD in supporting professional managers, especially in the field of Reward Management -

1915        Founders met regularly at the London School of Economics.
1933        First Survey of Salaries.
1942        First Salaries Analysis published (with the LSE).
1976        Job Evaluation Handbook published (building on Salaries Analysis created in 1942). Start of regular Annual Salary Survey.
1992        Launch of the computerised OJE (Office Job Evaluation Scheme).
1993        Launch of the 'Reward Manager' (Job Evaluation and Salary Modeling Scheme).
1994        Launch of the computerised CPD (Continuing Professional Development Scheme).

Its aim is to promote and develop 'best practice', mainly through alliances and partnerships in the UK and across the World; to encourage the attainment of professional qualifications and, through conferences, publications, products and materials enable members to keep up to date with the latest developments and techniques in the field of administrative management.

Administrative Management is about managing information through people.

INFORMATION is central to all management processes. And PEOPLE are the resources that use that information to ADD VALUE. So, Administrative Management is at least an element of all managers' and most professionals' jobs.

The Institutes members today include directors, executives and managers at all levels. They are professionals who manage in the private sector and in the public sector - in large organisations - in small and medium enterprises.

They are employed in a wide variety of functions including personnel and training, marketing, purchasing, production and finance. They have job titles ranging from Chief Executive, HR Director or Manager,  Director of Administration and Administration Manager to Facilities manager, Systems Manager, Marketing Manager and Finance/Accounting Manager.

The IAM's concern with the promotion of best practice in the…MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION THROUGH PEOPLE…is the basis of the Institute's differentiation with other professional bodies. It is at the core of the job of the professional manager, whether it be information on finance, human resources, physical assets, intangible resources, purchasing, marketing or general administration.

To fulfill its mission the IAM has developed a comprehensive range of professional services for the benefit of organisations, individual managers and employees. These services and professional products include:
